Although the Festival has ended, we’re still celebrating summer with our 2010 Community Art Project: Summer Times.  Nearly 50 one of a kind “clock”works of art were created by local artists and a number of these unique timepieces are still available for purchase.

Performer Spotlight

The 2010 season closed with a sold-out performance by folk legend Arlo Guthrie.  Performing classics such as Coming Into Los Angeles and City of New Orleans, Guthrie delighted the audience with stories of his historic performance at Woodstock, sharing an apartment with Ramblin Jack Elliot as a teenager, and the songs he learned from his father.

The 2010 season was a roller coaster ride over 16-days of free and ticketed events, June 11 through 26.

Live coverage on WMAR-TV opening night, June 11, from the free, outdoor LakeFest event in Columbia Town Center resulted in the highest number of visits to our website in a single day during the Festival, which undoubtedly contributed to the great turnout for the evening's headliner, Scythian.  Scythian had everyone on their feet and rocking to their unique hybrid of Celtic, gypsy and rock 'n roll.  Temperatures soared Saturday at LakeFest, but the heat didn't prevent the fans from coming out that evening to listen to roots-rocker Eric Lindell and his band direct from New Orleans.

At the ticketed events that followed LakeFest, another New Orleans group, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, had the audience on its feet and on the stage as they followed the band parading in the aisles.  Patrick Combs' Man 1 Bank 0 theatrical performance had everyone rolling in the aisles with laughter and Parsons Dance earned a standing ovation for their stroboscopic tour-de-force Caught.  And, last but certainly not least, Arlo Guthrie fans filled the Rouse Theatre to capacity for the season's closing performance event on June 26.

Overall - with music, theater, comedy, film, literature, art exhibits, a parade, cardboard boat races, free events and ticketed events - the 2010 season was a great ride!
